About Light Up Lactation

I've been a registered nurse since 2005 (always working in women's health) and a board certified lactation consultant since 2017. I have 2 kiddos and experienced many lactation struggles with both of them. I had an emergency cesarean delivery with my first baby. She did not latch well, lost more than 10% of her birth weight, and we supplemented with formula and used a nipple shield while I struggled to use a pump and build a milk supply. I was able to have a vaginal delivery (VBAC) with my second, but she was in the NICU on oxygen and with bilirubin lights for her jaundice. Again I used a pump and practiced latching. It. Was. Rough.

My personal experience and love of learning lead me to becoming a lactation consultant. After working in the hospital system for 20+ years, I now work in private practice and joined the Breezy Babies team of amazing lactation consultants.

I wish I could send the me-of-now back all those years ago to be able to help the me-of-then. Since I can't time travel, I pay it forward so I can help others. I love teaching parents and professionals so lactation feels light rather than heavy.
